Following a meeting with the state government and the assurance of setting up of an independent commission to study the state’s existing reservation policy, the five apex tribe bodies of Ao, Angami, Sumi, Lotha and Rengma and their Committee on Review of Reservation Policy (CoRRP) have decided to keep the second phase agitation in abeyance till June 17.
A statement from the committee informed that the five apex tribe bodies and CoRRP held a meeting on Tuesday convened by the state government under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton at the Chief Secretary’s Conference Hall in Kohima.
“After intense deliberations, the state govt assured that the core demands as brought out in our Memorandum of 20/09/2024 will be placed in the next Cabinet meeting and the decision, including setting up of an Independent Commission on Reservation Policy will be conveyed to us within the next fortnight,” the statement said.

Therefore, the committee stated that as requested by the Dy. CM and his four other cabinet colleagues, the second phase of agitation will be kept in abeyance till June 17 with the hope that the state cabinet will take “a well-informed decision” and honour the assurances given at the meeting.
