Nagaland Congress on Monday slammed NDPP for criticizing former chief minister of Nagaland Dr SC Jamir for ‘airing his views which are common knowledge to people of Nagaland.’ The Party maintained that what the veteran politician said were facts.
‘If his observation, based on his rich political and administrative experiences spanning over 60 years is unpalatable to some section, then he cannot be faulted for that,’ it stated.
Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee agreed with Jamir that ‘governance in Nagaland has been abdicated’ and advised the youth wing of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party, the upcoming future political leaders, to focus on the present and the future of Nagaland. It further said that they ‘should be concerned about the current mess created by leaders who are seeped up with filthy riches and practicing Nepotism and Favouritism.’

Dr SC Jamir had recently, in a writing on Morung Express titled ‘Memory Musings and what’s our undoing: Nagas are busy debating non-issues’, shared his views on the ongoing imbroglio on ‘urban local body’ stating that the present government seemed ‘clueless on how to run the administration’ and that ‘there is something seriously erroneous’ if the CM of the state ‘does not have the maturity to gauge public sentiment.
The nonagenarian had also mentioned that ‘some Naga leaders’ were appeasing organisations for their own selfish goals and said the governance in State has gone for a toss.
In the write-up, the Padma Bhushan had called upon the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, the only competent authority to enact laws for the state, to immediately appoint an Expert Committee to study all issues in-depth and prepare a model of Urban Bodies that would be feasible and workable both financially and administratively.
The NDPP Youth Organisation then strongly condemned the former chief minister for attacking the present government in the state and chief minister Neiphiu Rio and accused Jamir of having ‘personal grudge’. It pointed that the Nagaland Municipal Act 2001 was enacted during his term as CM and mocked him for the Congress party not securing even one seat at the recently held assembly election.
The youth wing also viewed that the former governor of Odisha, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Goa should not point fingers at others when he himself has done many wrongs.
The NPCC, in its reply, stated that the ULB mess was the result of the ruling government adopting the 74th Amendment of the constitution in 2006 that automatically incorporated inclusion of 33% women reservation in ULB. It also urged for Civil Societies, NGOs and Organizations to come out with ‘concrete and permanent rectified proposal’ so that the issue may be resolved.
The Nagaland Congress claimed that the NDPP had abdicated its responsibility on its youth to make ‘vitriolic and sweeping statement’ against an elder and respected personality. This is another example of how abdication of responsibility under the current regime has become the hallmark, it stated.
The Party to poked at the ruling party for failing to deliver the Naga political solution, the ULB jumble and also the oil exploration issue.
