Indian Army celebrates Armed Forces Veterans’ Day in Dimapur

Dimapur: Veer Naris and senior veterans felicitated by GOC at the event

The Spear Corps celebrated Armed Forces Veterans’ Day in Dimapur on 16 January 2025 by organising a special commemorative hosting the veterans, veer naris and their families from Dimapur and adjoining areas in Nagaland.

Lieutenant General Abhijit S Pendharkar, AVSM, YSM, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Spear Corps, was the chief guest on the occasion.

The PRO & Spokesperson, Ministry of Defence, Manipur, Nagaland and Southern Arunachal Pradesh, stated in a press release that the event provided an opportunity for the ex-servicemen to reconnect with their military roots and share their experiences and concerns. Veer Naris and senior veterans were felicitated by the GOC as tokens of appreciation for their relentless service and sacrifice for the nation.

The GOC acknowledged the sacrifices and unwavering commitment of veterans and expressed heartfelt gratitude for their pivotal role in nation-building. “The unwavering dedication and service of our veterans have laid the foundation for the strength and security of our nation. This afternoon is our humble way of commemorating their invaluable contributions,” he stated.

Expressing gratitude for this initiative and a veteran conveyed: “It is heart-warming to see the continued care and respect the Army has for its veterans. Events like these strengthen the bond between serving personnel and the ex-servicemen community. The event reinforced the Army’s commitment to honouring its veterans and Veer Naris while recognising their contributions to the country’s progress. It served as a reminder of the enduring legacy of the veterans’ community in shaping a secure and prosperous India.”

A vibrant cultural programme added to the celebratory spirit.

The Armed Forces Veterans’ Day is celebrated every year on the 14th January, marking the retirement of Field Marshal KM Cariappa, the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, in 1953. This significant day pays tribute to the esteemed veterans of our nation and has been commemorated since 2016 to strengthen the bonds among retired personnel, serving members, and the nation. It serves as a poignant reminder to honour the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice and selflessly served the country.
