Indian hockey team wins Bronze at Paris Olympics; President, PM congratulate team

The Indian hockey team has won its second consecutive bronze medal at the Olympics after the team defeated Spain 2-1 at Paris on Thursday. Harmanpreet Singh scored both goals for India.

Celebrating the medal, President Droupadi Murmu conveyed her congratulations and said that the team deserves highest praise for resurgence of Indian Hockey.

In a post on X, the President stated, “They have done India proud. The consistency, skills, cohesion and fighting spirit shown by this team will inspire our youth. Well done, Indian hockey team!”

“A feat that will be cherished for generations to come!” Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated while congratulating the hockey team. He added that their success is a triumph of skill, perseverance and team spirit and that the players have showed immense grit and resilience.

“Every Indian has an emotional connect with Hockey and this accomplishment will make the sport even more popular among the youth of our nation,” the Prime Minister added in his post on X.

Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, congratulated the Indian hockey team and stated that this victory is a proud moment for the nation and a testament to your dedication.

“Your exceptional performance & teamwork have showcased the best of Indian sports,” he added.

After the victory, goalkeeper PR Sreejesh announced his retirement.
