As part of the nationwide flagship campaign “Khet Bachao Abhiyan”, being observed from June 1 to 30 to promote soil health and sustainable agriculture, ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Wokha organized an awareness-cum-input distribution programme at Old Riphyim village on June 17.
During the programme, KVK scientists delivered technical lectures and conducted demonstrations on organic farming, soil sample collection, soil testing, soil health management and the balanced use of fertilisers for sustainable crop production in hill agriculture.
Participants were sensitised on the importance of maintaining soil fertility through scientific nutrient management, increased use of organic inputs and soil test-based fertiliser application to enhance productivity while conserving natural resources.
More than 200 farmers, farm women and rural youth attended the programme and actively participated in the interactive sessions. Scientists highlighted that healthy soil forms the foundation of sustainable agriculture, food security, environmental protection and improved livelihoods.
Farmers were encouraged to adopt eco-friendly farming practices and integrated nutrient management approaches to ensure the long-term sustainability of their farming systems.
To promote crop diversification, nutritional security and the adoption of improved agricultural technologies, critical agricultural inputs, including Biofortified Quality Protein Maize (HQPM), groundnut and soybean (KDS variety) seeds, were distributed to the participants.
