Khriehu Liezietsu inaugurates Bayavü Gate

Kohima: The MLA called the colony a mini Nagaland as its residents are people from all across the state and also from the country

The Bayavü Colony gate was inaugurated by Khriehu Liezietsu, MLA, 10th Northern Angami-1 A/C in a short but momentous programme today.

The construction of the gate was initiated by the Ward Adoption Committee of the MLA’s constituency and was fully funded by him. Bayavü Area Panchayat took the responsibility of overseeing the construction works.

In his speech, Khriehu Liezietsu congratulated the residents of Bayavü colony on the ‘epic’ gate, saying that it was a great day for everybody. The MLA gave special acknowledgement to those who worked tirelessly to erect the gate.

He said that in the past, Nagas built village gates at the entrance and at strategic locations to prevent rivals and enemies from entering the villages, but in the present day, gates are built to welcome others.

Calling Bayavü a mini Nagaland, the MLA said the residents of the colony comprise of people from not only across the state and also from the country. He said the beautiful motifs painted on the gate testify to the diversity of the residents of Bayavü colony.

“…it is an expression of the unity and a message of peace and harmony for a progressive Naga modern society,” Liezietsu added.

Furthermore, he said he believes Bayavü will become one of the model colonies in the state.

The MLA concluded his address by dedicating the gate to the people of the colony and also to the general public. Liezietsu then proceeded to cut the ribbon signifying the opening of the gate and also unveiled the plague.

The programme was attended by notable dignitaries, members of the colony’s organisations, residents and well wishers.

The works for the colony gate began on 12 October with a prayer by Vikheli Swu, Deaconess, Sumi Baptist Church, Kohima, a resident of Middle Bayavü colony since 1985.
