Joining rest of the country, Nagaland Chapter of Indian Red Cross Society observed World Red Cross Day here at Raj Bhavan, Kohima on Monday.
Addressing the occasion Nagaland Governor La Ganesan said that Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement celebrates this day with jubilation and cheers in remembrance of the great philanthropist Jean Henry Dunant.
He asserted that Red Cross Day honours the contributions of millions of volunteers, members and staffs of the Red Cross who worked tirelessly to protect human life across the world.
Pointing out that the theme for this year “EVERYTHING WE DO COMES FROM THE HEART”, the Governor said that the theme embodies the spirit of the Red Cross, which is built on the seven principles of impartiality, neutrality, humanity, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality.
“The Red Cross have been a forefront of humanitarian services for more than 160 years providing assistance to victims of wars, natural disasters, and other emergencies, and have helped to build more resilient and sustainable communities. The work of Red Cross has touched the lives of millions of people around the world, and still continue to play a critical role in addressing some of the most pressing global challenges of our time,” added the Governor.
The Governor also maintained that the uninhibited voluntary service of the youth and Red Cross members taking part in its activities is recognised by the movement everywhere.
He pointed out that this year theme is a powerful reminder that the work of Red Cross is driven by compassion, empathy and kindness. “We must remember that everything we do, from our personal interactions with others to our work in our communities and beyond, comes from the heart. It is through acts of kindness and generosity that we can make a positive difference in the world,” said LA Ganesan.
He also pointed out that one of the most inspiring aspects of the work of the Red Cross is the role of Red Cross volunteers.
Adding that volunteers are the lifeblood of this organisation providing essential support and assistance to those in need and their work is underpinned by a deep sense of understanding of the challenges faced by the communities they serve. Red Cross society embodies the spirit of kindness and compassion.
The Governor also said that the work of the Red Cross is truly inspiring, and it serves as a powerful example of the positive impact that we can have on the world.
He also encouraged the people to contribute in their own capacity for humanitarian service with the Red Cross Society so that it can build a more peaceful and sustainable community to make our world a better place to live in.
