Leaders of the nation greet Nagaland on 60th Statehood Day

Kohima: PM says India takes great pride in the Naga culture which emphasises on courage, hardwork and living in harmony with nature

Leaders from across the country have greeted Nagaland and its people on the occasion of the 60th Statehood Day being celebrated today, 1 December. The state was formed on this day in 1963.

In her message, Droupadi Murmu, President of India, mentioned that she was touched by the “warmth of the people” during her recent visit to Nagaland in the beginning of November and wished for a “bright and prosperous future of the people of Nagaland”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent his best wishes to the people of Nagaland, saying that India takes great pride in the Naga culture “which emphasises on courage, hardwork and living in harmony with nature”.

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah said the state is “blessed with immense natural beauty, rich traditions and cultural diversity. May the state continue to scale new heights of development and progress.”

Minister of Education and Minister of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan, while expressing his greetings, wrote “Nagaland is a unique blend of heritage, pristine natural beauty and vibrant tribal culture. May the state and its hard working people achieve new heights of progress, prosperity and peace.”

Other leaders who sent their greetings to the state and its citizens included G Kishan Reddy, Union Minister For Culture, Tourism And Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER); Arjun Munda, Union Minister of Tribal Affairs; Om Birla, Speaker of 17th Lok Sabha, Parliament of India; Hardeep Singh Puri, India’s Union Minister for Housing & Urban Affairs & Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas; Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam; Pema Khandu, Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh and more.

The Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar, in his tweet said he is glad he will be in Nagaland today to experience the “vibrant culture, heavenly beauty and the deep connect its people share with nature”.

The Vice President will be arriving in Kohima today to inaugurate the Hornbill Festival which is held annually from 1–10 December. The opening ceremony of the famous festival is scheduled to start at 4pm at Main Arena, Kisama, the Hornbill Festival village in state capital Kohima.
