The Litter-Free Nagaland Campaign was conducted in Kohima from January 27 to 29 January 2025. This initiative, led by PACE (PET Packaging Association for Clean Environment) in collaboration with the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) and the Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB), is being implemented by Lakshya and Eco-Warriors Nagaland. Over three days, a series of impactful events were organized, focusing on waste management, sustainable practices, and public awareness.
On January 27, 2025, the campaign was officially inaugurated at NST, Kohima, under the leadership of T. Lanusenla Longkumer, CEO, Kohima Municipal Council (KMC). Over 150 participants, including students, visitors, commuters, and local citizens, joined the signature campaign, pledging to reduce waste, embrace recycling, and adopt proper plastic management. The overwhelming response reflected a growing awareness and commitment among the people to ensure Nagaland remains litter-free.
On January 28, 2025, a community-driven event focused on plastic waste disposal and sustainability practices was held at ISBT, Kohima. The first activity involved sensitizing drivers and passengers about the significance of stopping littering, encouraging recycling, and adopting sustainable habits. Volunteers pasted stickers with messages like “Stop Littering,” “Encourage Recycling,” and “Keep the City Clean” on vehicles, ensuring the message reached a wider audience. At least 160 people participated in this awareness drive.
The second activity featured a signature campaign, where over 120 individuals pledged to uphold responsible waste management, commit to recycling, and practice sustainability. The event successfully reinforced the idea that every individual has a role to play in maintaining a cleaner environment.
On January 29, 2025, to further strengthen waste management initiatives, a capacity-building session was held at the KMC office for municipal staff. The training focused on effective plastic waste management strategies, equipping KMC personnel with the necessary knowledge and skills to implement sustainable waste disposal and recycling practices in the city.
