Lok Sabha polls 2024: Kohima DC notifies of restrictions as campaigning period ends

Kohima: Restrictions to remain in force till 20th April 2024

Deputy Commissioner, Kohima Kumar Ramnikant, IAS has informed that the polling for the General Election to the Lok Sabha, 2024 is scheduled to be held on 19th April 2024 (Friday) and the campaigning period for the election has come to an end at 4:00 pm today.

Therefore, the DC and DEO, Kohima has directed that no person shall:

  1. Convene, hold, attend, join or address any public meeting or procession in connection with an election or
  2. Display to the public any election matter by means of cinematography, television or other similar apparatus or
  3. Propagate any election matter to the public by holding, or by arranging the holding of any musical concert or any performance or any theatrical performance or any other entertainment or amusement with a view to attracting the members of the public thereto.

Any person who contravenes the above provision shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.

Further the following restrictions shall apply:-

  1. Assembly of five or more persons including holding of any public meeting shall be prohibited in Kohima District. Door to Door visits may be allowed with prior permission of the DEO/ARO of the Assembly Segment.
  2. All political functionaries/party workers/campaign workers who are not the voters or residents of the Assembly Constituency shall immediately leave that constituency.

The Officials and staff of District Administration, Security Personnel, magistrate on Duty, Medical personnel, students travelling for examination and persons engaged in election duty/essential services shall be exempted from all above restrictions.

In view of urgent circumstances, this order is passed ex-parte and shall come into effect from 4:00 PM on 17th April 2024 and remain in force till 20th April, 2024 in the entire Kohima District.
