Mini Legal Services Camp organized in Zunheboto

The Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA), in collaboration with the Zunheboto District Legal Services Authority (ZDLSA) and the District Administration, hosted a Mini Legal Services Camp at the Multi-Purpose Hall in Zunheboto on May 29.

The event aimed to bridge the gap between legal services and the public, emphasizing the importance of making justice and legal aid accessible to all, particularly the marginalized and vulnerable sections of society.

Stressing on Constitutional Rights, the Deputy Commissioner Zunheboto, Dharam Raj, IAS, who served as the special guest reminded the public that legal awareness is a fundamental right, not merely a domain for legal professionals. He urged citizens to proactively utilize platforms like Lok Adalat to seek peaceful and timely dispute resolution.

Highlighting the key event, Neiko Akami, Member Secretary of NSLSA, spoke on the Objective and Reach, underscoring that all legal services provided are free of charge. He announced plans to expand these camps to various sub-divisions across the state.

Addressing the status of over 500 inmates across Nagaland, Akami highlighted recent inspections conducted in Zunheboto jails. He emphasized on Prison Welfare and the right of inmates to live in hygienic conditions and the provision of free legal advocates to ensure fair due process.

Lok Adalat Achievements: It was reported that the Lok Adalat mechanism has successfully settled 604 cases, amounting to over ₹8 crore. The next session is scheduled for September 12, with a focus on resolving common disputes like loan recovery.

Victim Compensation: Between January and April of this year, approximately ₹19 lakh in compensation has been disbursed to crime victims under various state schemes.

The event featured contributions from various legal officials and community leaders, including Phuleto Yeptho, District & Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman of ZDLSA, who delivered the welcome address. Looking ahead, the organizers announced plans to conduct a dedicated Disability Camp in the coming months to further extend support to the community.
