Minister for Higher Education and Tourism, Temjen Imna Along graced the 27th Freshers’ Meet of Oriental College, Kohima on Friday. Speaking as the Special Guest, the Minister encouraged students to eliminate the divisions amongst them and to focus on building a better future together.

He urged the students to strive for excellence and reminded them that represent their families, communities, and villages, and must therefore showcase their best selves. Along said that students develop the notion of division in college and advised them against adopting such mindset to but instead feel like one community, learning from and supporting each other.

Touching on the issue of unemployment the Minister regretted that the Naga society is overtly focussed on government jobs. He expressed that the government’s commitment to higher education aims to produce exceptional human resources from Nagaland’s institutions and aspire for every student emerging from educational institutions to be skilled and prepared for their future.

Each student possesses unique talents, and teachers should identify and nurture these skills by creating skill hubs so that graduates leave with a solid skill set, the Minister stated.

Further, he remarked that there is no honour in laziness, pointing out that while Nagas carry a sense of pride, they are often hesitant to engage in smaller tasks. He stressed the need to be responsible stewards of the skills and attitudes they possess.
