Achumbemo Kikon, MLA of the 40th Assembly Constituency, Government of Nagaland, conducted a preliminary inspection of the ongoing Nagaland Foothill Road (NFHR) construction under Bhandari subdivision (PWD/R&B, Baghty Division) on April 4. The inspection was attended by representatives from the construction firm JK Construction, Presidents of the Lotha Lower Range Public Organization (LLRPO) and the Yanmhon Area Public Organization (YAPO).
Speaking on the significance of the project during the visit, Kikon reminded the construction firm on the necessity of adhering strictly to the prescribed specifications and timelines. The importance of completing the project without compromising on the quality of materials and workmanship, ensuring the durability and efficiency of the road infrastructure was also stressed by the MLA.
He also expressed urgency In completing the construction noting the essence of the road for his constituency which hopefully will function by March 2025. The completion of the road, according to Kikon, will mark a milestone—providing essential connectivity both within and beyond the area. He urged the construction firm to expedite work by deploying the required machinery and workforce, aiming to set a high benchmark for infrastructure development in the region.

Several concerns were highlighted during the visit such as the delay in construction and issues related to high-tension electric poles. Although the work order had been issued in November 2024, the actual construction activities could only begin in February 2025 due to unforeseen circumstances which led to the loss of four months. “Such setbacks must not hinder the ongoing progress,” said Kikon who reaffirmed the commitment to ensuring that work proceeds without further disruptions.
The historical neglect of developmental initiatives in the region, particularly in terms of road connectivity was also acknowledged, where the MLA mentioned that the area has often been labeled as backward due to the lack of infrastructure.
Kikon also directed the relevant authorities to assess and rectify issues related to high-tension electric poles. He pointed out that several high-tension poles had been left unattended during earth-cutting, posing a potential hazard as they obstruct the road. “Corrective measures should be taken promptly to avoid safety risks and ensure seamless road construction without unnecessary impediments,” stated Kikon.
The MLA also acknowledged the local residents and landowners affected by the project, whose cooperation and sacrifices has helped in facilitating the road’s construction. With a major part of the road affecting farmlands and plantations, including rubber and areca nut cultivations, Kikon noted that their support has been essential in the success of the project. Kikon appealed for continued assistance and active participation from the community to ensure that the roadwork is completed within the stipulated timeframe.
During the inspection, the LLRPO and YAPO also lauded the progress in the construction, especially the preliminary earth-cutting work carried out under Baghty Division. They assured their unwavering cooperation, commitment and support in achieving high-quality construction and timely project completion.
