MLA of Kohima town assembly constituency Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso on Tuesday distributed free umbrellas to underprivileged and economically disadvantaged children enrolled in ‘Reading Program’ from Forest Colony Government High School (GHS), Kohima at a small function organized by the Bumblebee Society and the GHS at the Forest Colony community hall.
Rhutso exhorted the children present that studying is a priority, and encouraged them to study hard to become contributing assets to the society by being good citizens in the society. He called upon them to become good givers in life as well.
The free distribution of umbrellas was held as part of the Bumblebee Society ‘Reading Program’ and to ensure children attend school regularly and with dignity even during the rainy season. Children mostly from marginalized families or household helpers often lack even the most basic school necessities, walking long distance to school without basic protection from rain, sun often affecting their attendance and health.
The legislator, taken in with the noble works of the Bumblebee Society, volunteered to extend the helping hand further to all government schools within the constituency apart from the Bumblebee Society ‘Reading Program’.

The Bumblebee Society ‘Reading Program’ works with children from marginalized communities and those with disabilities since 2011.
