Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), S. Supongmeren Jamir, conducted a comprehensive visit to Dimapur, Sukhovi, and Molvom Railway Stations on June 10 to review the status of ongoing railway infrastructure projects in Nagaland. The visit included a series of high-level meetings with officials from the Indian Railways and various departments of the Dimapur and Chumoukedima district administrations.

At Dimapur Railway Station, Jamir conducted an in-depth review meeting with officials from the Dimapur and Lumding Railway Divisions, along with representatives from the District Administration, Nagaland Police Department, Land Revenue Department, and Nagaland State Transport Department of Dimapur District.

The discussions focused on the status of the Dimapur Railway Station Upgradation Project. Officials briefed the MP on ongoing development works and highlighted several impediments hampering project progress.

Another key concern raised by Railway authorities was the uncertain future of the Lumding–Furkating Railway Line Doubling Project within Nagaland.  They warned that continued inaction in addressing the challenges could lead to a rerouting of the project, potentially bypassing the state entirely.

At Sukhovi Railway Station, the MP chaired a meeting attended by Railway officials, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) and Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) of Chumoukedima. Officials noted that with both passenger and freight services currently operating and growing at near optimum capacity, there was an urgent need for the development of additional support infrastructure, including establishment of a permanent police outpost, setting up a livestock screening and quarantine facility and Installation of an Inner Line Permit (ILP) checkpoint with integrated detention and deportation capabilities.

Other pressing concerns highlighted included the lack of staff accommodation due to the stalled construction of staff quarters and the dilapidated condition of key road stretches linking the station to the National Highway.

During the final leg of the visit, Jamir inspected the Molvom Railway Station, where Railway officials reported significant progress. With track laying and core station infrastructure completed, and a substantial portion of the loading/unloading dock developed, the station is projected to be commissioned within the next two to three months.

Jamir reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that critical infrastructure projects in Nagaland receive the attention and support they require for timely completion and assured all possible support and assistance from his end to facilitate their smooth implementation.
