The Naga Club held their General Body Meeting at the AMK Ki opposite Naga Club Building Kohima on December 30.
K. Seyie, President Naga Club in his welcome address acknowledged and thanked the founders of the Naga Club, who founded the Naga Club on January 7, 1918, under the erudite and educated President-ship of Rheichalie Pienyü. The President also mentioned how the Naga Club formed the Naga National Council (NNC) to carry forward ahead the Naga political and historical rights as being a Sovereign People and a Sovereign Nation.
Seyie emphasised on the construction of Naga Club Building that will start its initial work by 2025. The Naga Club Plot will have eight storeys and will be the tallest building in Kohima, claimed the President. He also asserted that the Naga Club Building will be pre fabricated and strong that it can stand calamities . While the cost of constructing such a huge building came across as a challenge, K Seyie stressed that Chief Minister Rio has gladly assured assistance of Rs. 16.30 crores for the construction of Naga Club Building. The building will accommodate three floors as commercial which will enhance revenue and also promote local products. The building will also include parking lot, library where books about Nagas will be collected, Museum where Naga antiques will be showcased and one of the most important avenues will be the provision of free guest house where travellers can accommodate themselves in times of adverse conditions and situations. K Seyie hoped that the Naga Club building will stand for 70 years and more.
The speech of Guest Speaker Niketu Iralu, Former Advisor Naga Club who could not attend the program due to some health issues, was delivered by John Lohe, Vice President, Naga Club. Iralu expressed his humble support and
Appreciation for all that has been achieved to consolidate the story of the Naga Club as it is today. Sighting the significance of the Naga Club, he stated, “As human beings we the Nagas are as old as any others in the world – the Egyptians, the Persians, the Jews, the Indians, the Chinese or the Japanese, and so on. For all the past centuries, like many other numerically small tribes, and communities, we lived mostly unnoticed, unheard by others in the wider world. All our history was oral history totally without any written record of events about our people. Oral history is also extremely important as the rich accumulated, cultural, spiritual, mystical part of our history, as it is with all other peoples. But Its value for the proper understanding of the growth of the Nagas down the centuries of history is very limited.”
Iralu also highlighted that the primary responsibility of the Naga Club is to make sure the facts of history are maintained as they are and stated that History is yesterday. “It gives Today what it should do today to make tomorrow a better future. If facts of history of yesterday are manipulated the future is ultimately destroyed. This is what the Naga Club should be known for and respected by the Nagas,” stated Iralu.
