Nagaland Governor visits ICAR Research Complex

Governor of Nagaland, Nand Kishore Yadav on Friday visited the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Research Complex for North Eastern Hill Region, Nagaland Centre at Medziphema and reviewed the institution’s ongoing research, technology dissemination programmes, and contributions to agricultural development in the State.

During the visit, a detailed presentation highlighted the Centre’s achievements in crop improvement, integrated farming systems, horticulture, agroforestry, livestock development, fisheries, water conservation, and climate-resilient agriculture.

The Governor was informed about various research projects, technology demonstrations, farmer outreach programmes, and capacity-building initiatives being undertaken across Nagaland.

The presentation showcased significant accomplishments, including the development of drought-tolerant rice genotypes, promotion of high-yielding crop varieties, integrated farming system models for small and marginal farmers, rainwater harvesting structures, improved technologies for Naga King chilli cultivation, horticultural value addition, and innovations in pig and poultry production.

Scientists also highlighted the Centre’s pioneering work in artificial insemination in pigs, conservation of indigenous livestock resources, and dissemination of improved germplasm to farmers across the North Eastern Region.

The Governor visited various research and farm facilities, including experimental fields, nurseries, laboratories, livestock units, fisheries facilities, and processing units. He interacted with scientists and staff and appreciated their efforts in advancing agricultural research and supporting farmers through location-specific technologies and extension services.

The Governor commended the Centre for its contributions towards enhancing agricultural productivity, promoting sustainable farming practices, and strengthening the livelihoods of farmers in Nagaland. He emphasized the importance of translating scientific research into practical solutions that benefit farming communities and contribute to the State’s agricultural growth and food security.

The visit concluded with a tour of the farm facilities and an interaction with officials of the Centre on future opportunities for strengthening agricultural innovation and farmer welfare in Nagaland.
