The Nagaland Contractors and Suppliers’ Union (NCSU) Shamator district unit office was formally inaugurated on Friday by NCSU president Pele Khezhie.

Speaking on the occasion, Khezhie lauded the district unit for establishing its office in the district and also encouraged landowners that for development in the district they should not have issues or objection but to pave way for upgrading the district. He mentioned that development in all the newly upgraded districts including Shamator is needed and he urged the people to find out ways to help local qualified contractors who can deliver.

Khiezhie also highlighted the urgent need for improvement of road connectivity in the region, specifically citing the poor condition of National Highway (NH) 202 in Shamator and NH 702 (Zunheboto, Aghunato, Chessore, Shamator, Noklak, Pangsha). He acknowledged ongoing work on these routes, but noted significant delays due to landslides.

Yimkhiung Tribal council (YTC) advisor Yanba Showuba in his brief address said that all future projects must be executed with care, efficiency, and with the awareness and consent of the NCSU. He urged upon all the district contractors and suppliers to work together for infrastructure development of the district.

He praised Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio’s leadership through new developments like the establishment of district-level contractor offices and upgradation of district headquarters.

He further called upon tribal bodies, NGOs, and civil societies in eastern Nagaland region and Yimkhiung areas to cooperate with the government and NCSU. He emphasized the importance of quality workmanship from all contractors and pledged YTC’s assistance in addressing any issues.

Touching on existing economic disparities, Showuba candidly stated, “We do not have super or first-class successful contractors here. In ENPO area, there might be a few, but even Class-1 contractors are largely missing.” Towards this, the tribal leader appealed to all Nagas to help uplift the region and help them learn traits so as to advance with others.

The YTC pledged its cooperation for any developmental work under its jurisdiction, aligning with the vision of CM Rio and the NCSU.  The tribal leader also highlighted the critical need for reconstruction of the bridge between Shamator and Mongko EAC headquarters, which was destroyed by a storm last year.
