NOPG 2024: Kohima leads after winning 15 medals on Day 4

Chümoukedima: Athletics, Archery, Basketball, Table Tennis, Pecak Silat, Wushu, Belt Wrestling, Boxing, Volleyball events held on Thursday

Kohima district is leading the medal tally on Day 4 at the ongoing Nagaland Olympic and Paralympic Games (NOPG) 2024 being hosted by Chümoukedima and Dimapur. On Thursday, Kohima added 15 more medals to their tally which now stands at 34 including 12 gold, 14 silver and 8 bronze.

Host Dimapur closely follows with 29 medals including 12 gold, 6 silver and 11 bronze while Phek is in the third position with a total of 22 medals that includes 10 gold, 4 silver and eight bronze.

After three days of medal drought, Tseminyu district won 5 medals on Thursday including 2 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze, whereas Zunheboto district couldn’t not open its tally even after the fourth day at the NOPG 2024.

The events that were conducted on Thursday included Athletics, Archery, Basketball, Table Tennis, Pecak Silat, Wushu, Belt Wrestling, Boxing and Volleyball.

Abu Metha, Advisor to the Chief Minister, Chairman IDAN and Secretary General Nagaland Olympic Association, attended the program marking the commencement of volleyball events at the Volleyball Arena-D, opposite of Nagaland Cricket Stadium Sovima. He remarked that volleyball is one sport that exemplifies what sports is all about and encouraged the players to be the ambassador of their districts and show sportsmanship with disciplines and excellency.

Jacob Yanthan, President of Nagaland Volleyball Association, said that NOPG is a celebration of determination, sportsmanship, discipline and unity and also a platform where youngsters from various backgrounds and abilities/talent come together to compete and inspire others. He expressed confidence that this edition will be a memorable and impactful one and urged all the participating teams to uphold the values of fair play, respect, and inclusivity to uplift each other, and to embrace the diversity and uniqueness of all discipline.

Yanthan also informed that around 20 volleyball players will be selected from the ongoing NOPG 2024 to participate in the Northeast Olympic Games which is probably to be held by March this year.
