The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has served a seven-day ultimatum to the state government to issue a corrigendum of the notification order dated the April 13, 2025 against the Transfer and Posting issued by the state government on Palm Sunday.
In a letter to the Chief Secretary Nagaland, the NPCC stated that it had “respectfully appealed” for issuance of a corrigendum of date against said notification of the state government as the day coincided with Palm Sunday, a sacred day for Christians. However, since there had been no reaction from the state government, the NPCC served a seven-day ultimatum to issue the corrigendum. “In the event of failure on your part within the aforesaid period, the NPCC shall be compelled to resort to its own course of action to do justice to the Christians among the Nagas,” the letter, issued by Lok Sabha MP and NPCC president S. Supongmeren Jamir, stated.

The state Congress had earlier maintained that the two notifications issued by the state government on April 13, a Sunday, sets a worrying precedence as it said this was the first time transfer orders were being issued on a Sunday in Nagaland since it statehood in 1963. It pointed out that the fact the day also happened to be Palm Sunday, a day that holds huge religious and cultural importance for Christians all over the world lends the government’s move all the more insensitive. The party then called upon the state government to withdraw or review said notifications and ensure that such actions do not become a trend.
