The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has condemned the Government of Nagaland for failure to revoke its order issued 2 June 2023, suspending the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Dimapur, Chümoukedima, and Niuland and urged it to immediately reimpose ILP in the district “in the interest of the people.” The NSF had served an ultimatum to the government to withdraw the order within 30 days which expires today.

In a press release, the Federation expressed its disappointment at the State Government for overlooking its concerns and demands articulated in the representation to the Chief Secretary, Government of Nagaland, submitted on 28 February 2024. In the representation, the student body had pressed for “stringent ILP enforcement across the state, emphasizing the establishment of monitoring cells at vital entry points, including Dimapur railway station, Dimapur airport, and all entry/exit points to Nagaland.”

They also added that the “ILP system serves as a vital safeguard for indigenous inhabitants, requiring a government committed to honesty, transparency, and accountability.”

The NSF leaders further directed all its federating units “to remain vigilant and prepared for any necessary course of action in response to the state government’s inaction.” It also appealed all stakeholders and the general public to render their support and cooperation in this “noble crusade to secure a definite future for the Naga people”.
