The Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) observed National Legal Services Day across the districts on November 9 by organizing various programmes and activities under the theme
NSLSA Member Secretary, Neiko Akami, NJS while delivering an address at a programme in Losami Village, Phek said that Legal services have come to stay in our state to provide free and competent Legal Services to the weaker sections of the society.
He underscored that the legal services is here to ensure that opportunities for securing justice are not denied to any citizen by reason of economic or other disabilities.
Akami urged the gathering to approach the district Legal Services Authority and anyone can avail Legal advice in the days to come while adding that Legal services are provided for free.
Resources person, Sekhotso Rokha, Panel Lawyer spoke on Nagaland Village Council Act and NDPS Act and Vethothi Vero, Retainer Lawyer highlighted on Nagaland Victim Compensation and POCSO Act.
Longleng DLSA in observance of National Legal Services Day organised a day long Legal Awareness cum Educational Tour with LLCs of Shamakok Mission School, Good Shepherd School and Christian High School. During the inaugural program P Monyei Phom, Panel Lawyer reviewed the activities of DLSA and presented activities at a glance. A Mane Phom, Retainer Lawyer delivered the significance of the day and briefed the basic procedure of law.
The DLSA also visited Observation Home, District Jail and Sakhi One stop centre an highlighted keys functions of the centres.
Tuensang District Legal Services Authority observed National Legal Services Day with Goodwill Society Drug De -Addiction centre,Tuensang. Antimangyang Chang, Retainer Lawyer TDLSA, explained about the NDPS Act and Panel Lawyer Herola elaborated on Legal Services and free legal aid.
A Legal Awareness Programme in observance of National Legal Services Day was organised by Dimapur District Legal Services Authority in collaboration with the Christian Institute of Health Sciences & Research on the theme “Empowering Access to Justice.” Sangto Longchar, Panel lawyer spoke on the significance of the day, legal services and its role, lok adalat, victim compensation scheme and Pocso act. L. Luzukhu Achumi, Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel spoke on FIR, procedures on bail and bonds, basic legal rights, domestic violence and some procedural aspect in respect of BNSS.

Commemorating National Legal Services Day Wokha District Legal Services Authority (Authority) created Awareness on NALSA helpline number and distribution of Legal Pamphlets in English,Nagamese and Lotha (Local dialect) to the general public by Panel Lawyers and Para Legal Volunteers.
The Peren District Legal Services Authority commemorated Legal Services Day by conducting a One Day Training Program for the Para Legal Volunteers under the Peren District with guest resource persons from Dimapur District Legal Services Authority. During the First Session Kumchuba (Panel lawyer, DLSA Dimapur) spoke at length about the concept of PLV under the Legal Services Act and also the principles which governs a PLV. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining the Daily Activity Register by the PLVs and shared the success stories of the PLVs under Dimapur District to encourage the Peren District PLVs. Rokovitsu Khate (Panel lawyer DLSA Dimapur) explained to the PLVs the Customary laws in Nagaland and the Constitutional mandate under Art 371A of the various customary practices in Nagaland. The program was attended by the PLVs from Athibung, Tening, Peren and Jalukie circle under Peren District.
