Nurses form the backbone of the healthcare system: NHAK School of Nursing Convocation Ceremony held

The School of Nursing, Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK), hosted its Convocation Ceremony alongside the 22nd Lt. Ketsovole Kire Award Ceremony (2021-24) at the NHAK Auditorium on April 16.

Longshibeni K. Patton was honored with the Lt. Mrs. Ketsovole Kire Award. The Guest of Honour, Dr. Mereninla Senlem, Principal Director of the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, commended the Kire family for instituting the award, which motivates students to pursue excellence.

In her address, Dr. Senlem emphasized the nobility of the healthcare profession, acknowledging that while doctors play a crucial role, nurses form the backbone of the healthcare system. She highlighted the high demand for Northeast nurses abroad due to their exceptional soft skills and urged them to remain dedicated to their work, serving both the community and the healthcare sector with commitment.

Retired DGP K. Kire, IPS, delivered a speech on behalf of the Kire family, sharing insights into his mother’s journey as a nurse and encouraging the graduates to work diligently and uphold the highest standards in their profession.

Dr. M. Margaret Yhome, Managing Director of NHAK, graced the event, while NHAK Chaplain Vikepu Tepa blessed the ceremony with a Bible reading and prayer. S. Tiakala Longkumer, Principal of the School of Nursing (SON) NHAK, delivered the welcome address, and 2nd-year GNM students enriched the program with a musical performance.

The certificate presentation was led by Kepelhoutseiu Suohu, Joint Director of Nursing, Directorate of H&FW, followed by the Nurses’ Pledge, administered by Khoshelu K. Khamo, Nursing Tutor at SON NHAK. Loino V. Yeptho concluded the event with a vote of thanks.

Established in 2002 by the family of the late Ketsovole Kire—a distinguished figure in nursing—this annual award recognizes academic excellence among General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) students in Nagaland.
