Srinagar: Surinder Kumar Choudhary takes oath as Deputy Chief Minister

Omar Abdullah has been sworn in as the first Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir in a ceremony held on Wednesday at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar. J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha administered the oath of office and secrecy to Abdullah and his Council of Ministers.

Abdullah had previously served as Chief Minister of the State of Jammu & Kashmir from 5 January 2009 to 8 January 2015.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by INDIA bloc leaders including Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, AAP leader Sanjay Singh, CPI leader D Raja.

His father Farooq Abdullah, the President of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference, was seated in the front row to witness his oath taking.

Earlier today, Omar Abdullah visited the shrine his grandfather, founder of National Conference and former chief minister Sheikh Abdullah and paid his respects.
