The Phom Students’ Conference (PSC) has flagged widespread administrative dysfunction in Longleng district, revealing that only 4% of government offices are fully staffed and operational.
Following an inspection drive carried out across various departments, the PSC found numerous offices locked during working hours, while others were operating with severely inadequate manpower. In many instances, officers-in-charge were reportedly absent without proper authorization, leading to a near standstill in public service delivery.
In a statement issued on June 26, the PSC expressed concern that such administrative negligence was eroding public trust and slowing developmental progress in the district. The organization termed the situation as a “direct failure of responsibility” that is negatively impacting daily life in the region.
The PSC has called for urgent intervention by the district administration and the state government. Key demands include implementation of effective monitoring mechanisms, enforcement of strict attendance, and disciplinary action against habitual absentee staff.
PSC president C. Sham-e Phom emphasized that such irregularities cannot be normalized in a district already grappling with developmental challenges.
General Secretary Imkongchingba Phom, who also heads the PSC Inspection Committee, appealed to departmental heads to maintain transparency through proper record-keeping and restore consistent public service delivery.
The student body warned that failure to address the issue could prompt democratic protest actions. The statement further stated that PSC’s findings have ignited public concern, with many residents voicing support for stronger administrative reforms in Longleng.
