With the intention to achieve academic excellence from the start of the year, St. Xavier Higher Secondary School, Shamator organized an orientation and motivational talk for students of Classes 10, 11, and 12 on May 16.

Resource person, Rev Fr Thomas Toretkiu outlined key elements for success in life and examinations, emphasizing hard work, consistency, and a strong grasp of both concept and content while studying. He urged students to dedicate 5 to 6 hours daily to their studies if they aspire to top the NBSE HSLC and HSSLC examinations.

To reinforce his message, Fr Toretkiu screened interview clips of previous toppers, highlighting that their common technique for achievement was encapsulated in the mantra: ‘Believe and Achieve.’ Addressing the students directly, he encouraged Classes 10 and 12 to work hard with focus, while urging Class 11 to begin the academic year well and maintain momentum.

He also advocated the 3Rs method — Read, Write, and Recite — as an effective study strategy. Stressing self-reliance, Fr Toretkiu encouraged students to develop the habit of making their own notes and to prioritize textbooks over teacher-dictated notes, stating that personal note-making builds confidence and ensures better understanding. He further reminded students to pray to God for guidance in achieving their dreams and aspirations.

He advised them that topping the HSLC and HSSLC requires hard work and investing more time in studies.

Earlier, the programme commenced with words of introduction and a warm welcome by Rev Fr John Poji, Principal of St Xavier Higher Secondary School, Shamator.

The motivational session concluded with a prayer of blessing for all students, leaving them inspired to adopt disciplined study habits and strive for academic excellence in the upcoming board examinations.
