An outreach and awareness programme on Census 2027 Phase-I (House listing Operation) was organised for stakeholders under Longleng Town Council Charge, Longleng Sadar Charge, and Yachem Charge.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by the Charge Officer, Longleng Sadar, Er Vinoh Swu, EAC, who articulated the objectives of the programme and underscored the importance of fostering public awareness for the successful conduct of the forthcoming Census.
Addressing the gathering, the District Census Officer and Longleng Town Census Officer, Thungchanbemo Tungoe, ADC Longleng, apprised the participants that Census 2027 would mark a watershed moment as India’s first fully digital and paperless Census. He informed that the Self-Enumeration facility would be available from June 16 to 30 through the official Census portal.
He further stated that the House listing Operation would be carried out across the district from July 1 to 30. Underscoring the imperative of accurate enumeration, he noted that under the Census Act, 1948, every individual is mandated to be enumerated at his or her usual place of residence. Citizens were urged to extend their full cooperation to enumerators by furnishing accurate and complete information. Community leaders and stakeholders were likewise called upon to actively generate awareness among the public and render all necessary support to enumerators and supervisors to discharge their duties without hindrance or interference.

Appealing for wholehearted public participation, Tungoe emphasised that a thorough and accurate Census would enable Longleng to receive its rightful share of government welfare schemes, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, road infrastructure, and other vital developmental resources – thereby laying the foundation for evidence-based planning and equitable allocation of public funds across the district.
The programme concluded with an interactive session, during which Charge Officers, Field Trainer, Longthai Angh, and Supervisor, Amos Phom responded to queries and clarified doubts raised by the participants. The proceedings were brought to a close with a vote of thanks proposed by the Charge Officer, Longleng Sadar.
