The Porbami Students Union (PSU) celebrated its 75th anniversary on 9th January 2025 at the Local Ground, Porba, in Phek district, with Nagaland’s Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs, KG Kenye, as the special guest.

Addressing the program, Kenye expressed concerns over the trend among Naga people or prioritizing monetary and economic benefits at the expense of integrity and honesty, which are considered rich traditions and values. Stating that Porba village is known for its age-old traditions and values, he challenged the new generation to re-inculcate these virtues of the past.

Kenye recalled the sacrifices made by elders and parents who invested in the education of their children, which the present generation has inherited, enabling civilization and development at all levels. He also expounded on the role of early missionaries and elders in fostering progress, which has now resulted in Nagaland’s high literacy rate. In this regard, he called for efforts among the younger generation to shun self-centric approaches and contribute positively towards the growth and betterment of society.

The Minister also asserted that the Nagaland government is committed to resolving the issues concerning the state while seeking support and cooperation from the public.

Further, Kenye called for more research among the younger generation on the history and other aspects concerning the Nagas. He stressed the need to eliminate tribalism and hatred, which have afflicted society, even impacting religion.

To commemorate the occasion, the special guest, Kenye, unveiled the monolith, while the souvenir was released by Dr. K. Chitale Hiese, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Phek.
