The Phek Town Chakhesang Students Union (PTCSU) has expressed dismay over the recent transfer/redeployment of Assistant Professors from Phek Government College without providing any replacement. In a press release, the Union mentioned that this move which will seriously hamper the academic career of the students.

“Under the given situation, many departments in the College will not be able to offer major course which will seriously affect the quality education and overall progress of the College in the long run. It is astounding to see how the Authorities really expect the College to run with shortages of teachers when it actually need more teachers with the introduction of NEP 2020 – FYUGP,” stated the Union in a press release.

If the recent transfer comes into effect, the Union mentioned, in some departments in Science stream, only one teacher will have to man the whole department much below the sanctioned post.

“It appears as though Institutions in the outer districts are of just secondary importance. It is also shocking to note that the Department of Higher Education has scant regards towards its own service rule framed by itself which clearly states that ‘a teacher posted at particular place shall serve at least for five years before seeking transfer’ but transferring out teachers even during probation period,” pointed out the PTCSU.

The Union further raised concerns over the pace of infrastructure developmental works in the College which are long overdue. For instance, the Staff Quarters construction which was sanctioned in 2013 has been left incomplete with only 50 percent of work completed even after 11 years.

The Union also highlighted the delay in the academic upgradation classroom construction which was sanctioned in 2021 with a completion period of 24 month. It informed that the upgradation remained incomplete “with not even half of the work done”.

As the stake holder and as custodian of students’ welfare, the PTSCU cautioned it will not hesitate to resort to democratic means of action if the authorities fail to address these concerns affecting the College.
