The Pangti Village Students’ Union (PVSU) has expressed strong dissatisfaction over the ongoing PMGSY Phase-III Doyang–Mangmetong road construction, alleging poor workmanship, use of substandard materials, and slow progress that has left the road in a severely damaged condition.

In a statement issued by its president, Bonao Lotha and general secretary, Zulabeni Jami, the Union said even slight rainfall or mere drizzling renders the road into a pathetic and unmotorable condition, causing serious hardship to commuters, taxi services, private vehicles, and the general public. It described the situation as a reflection of “irresponsible and poor execution” of the project.

The PVSU also strongly objected to the alleged use of cheapest and low-quality construction materials in construction of culverts, side retaining walls, and related works, stating that such blatant compromises in quality were unacceptable.

It reminded that the Doyang-Mangmetong road is the only lifeline connecting Pangti village with five other villages and there is absolutely no alternative road. “Any negligence, delay, or substandard workmanship directly affects the lives, movement, economy, and safety of the people,” it added.

During an inspection conducted on May 18, 2026, the Union met site in-charge, site engineer, supervisor and some officials of M/S LPSS Infra and urged them to immediately accelerate the pace of work. It directed the officials to intimate the main contractor regarding the severe shortage of machinery and equipment, which has greatly hampered the progress of construction.

The PVSU further highlighted that residents are facing severe difficulties in transportation, medical emergencies, educational activities, business operations and daily movement due to the slow progress of work.

Reiterating its stand, the Union said it will continue to monitor and inspect the ongoing PMGSY Phase-III project to ensure accountability and transparency. It has also demanded immediate replacement of substandard materials and strict adherence to the Detailed Project Report (DPR).

In this regard, the PVSU, Village GBs, Committee, and the public have strongly urged the contractor to take immediate corrective measures and complete the work of earth cutting, culverts, side drains, and retaining walls before heavy monsoon season.
