Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), S Supongmeren Jamir has urged government officials in Zunheboto district to remain at their respective places of posting, work with dedication and go beyond routine departmental responsibilities to address issues affecting the people.

According to a DIPR update, Jamir made the appeal while chairing a meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) at the Deputy Commissioner’s Hall, Zunheboto. The meeting was attended by MLA Dr Sukhato A. Sema, Deputy Commissioner and DISHA Member Secretary Dharam Raj, IAS, and heads of offices and departmental officials.

Addressing the meeting, Jamir stressed that officers posted in the district carry an important responsibility towards the people and must make effective and responsible use of the authority entrusted to them.

He urged departmental heads not to confine themselves strictly to their assigned duties when issues require coordinated intervention, but to work collectively in the larger interest of the district.

The MP particularly emphasised the need for officials to remain accessible to the public and cautioned that the very purpose of DISHA meetings would be undermined if heads of offices were not available at their respective places of posting.

He also called for responsible exercise of official authority, stressing that it should never be misused but directed towards improving public service delivery and overall development.

MLA Dr Sukhato A. Sema said his participation in the DISHA meeting was aimed at reviewing the implementation of key Central Government schemes and assessing the progress of development programmes at the grassroots level. He underscored the importance of coordination among elected representatives, the district administration and government departments for effective implementation and better delivery of public services.

Sema also raised concerns over the utilisation of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) godown constructed in the district at an estimated cost of ₹20 crore. He stated that the project had been sanctioned by the Government of India and that the sanctioned amount had reportedly been fully drawn.

The MLA urged the Deputy Commissioner to examine the matter and ensure that the facility is put to its intended use and benefits the people of Zunheboto district.

He stressed the importance of inter-departmental coordination and effective monitoring to ensure that government initiatives reach their intended beneficiaries.

The meeting reviewed various development activities and implementation-related issues concerning Central Government schemes. Members stressed the need for closer monitoring, greater accountability and timely action to ensure that development programmes translate into tangible benefits at the grassroots level.

Departmental presentations were subsequently made by Assistant Labour Commissioner Tali of the Labour Department, the District Agriculture Officer on behalf of the Agriculture Department, and Veterinary Officer Dr Vikato H Ayeni on behalf of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services.

The meeting concluded with a call for greater coordination, accountability and commitment among government departments and stakeholders to promote inclusive and sustainable development in Zunheboto district.
