The administrative authorities of both Tuensang and Pfutsero area has issued notices to its citizens advocating for a clean and eco-friendly Diwali.

According to DIPR, Thungchanbemo Tungoe, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Tuensang, has issued a notice to all concerned citizens under the Tuensang Town Council (TTC), announcing the launch of ‘Swachh Diwali, Shubh Diwali.’ The initiative aims to promote clean and eco-friendly celebrations, emphasizing the importance of making Diwali a ‘single-use plastic and pollution-free’ event.

In a move towards a more sustainable and environmentally responsible festival, the TTC has declared this Diwali as the ‘Festival of Lights, not Firecrackers.’ Consequently, the sale and use of firecrackers within the jurisdiction of the Tuensang Town Council have been banned with immediate effect. This decision aligns with the growing global awareness of the adverse environmental and health impacts associated with fireworks, as well as the increasing emphasis on reducing single-use plastic waste, informed the DIPR.
