In a significant development that reshapes the political equations within the Kohima Municipal Council, two councillors from the National People’s Party formally joined the ruling Naga People’s Front on Friday, taking the NPF tally to 15 out of 19 wards.

Councillor Medoviu Martin Suohu of Ward No 19 and Councillor Vizokhoto George Kirha of Ward No 14, along with their supporters, resigned from the NPP and officially joined the NPF. Both pledged to work for the “development and progress” of the capital city.

Welcoming the new entrants, MLA & Advisor and NPF Secretary General, Achumbemo Kikon expressed happiness over the decision of the two NPP councillors to join the regional force. He described it as a boost for the party, particularly for the KMC, and urged them to remain with the party unconditionally.

He further called upon the two councillors and their supporters to uphold party discipline, stating that the NPF is a disciplined party where power rests with the grassroots. He added that since its inception in 1963, the NPF, as a regional-centric party, has endured and continues to believe in peaceful resolution to all issues, particularly the Naga political issue.
