The Wokha District Chamber of Commerce & Industry (WDCCI) has commended the ADC & Executive Officer, Wokha Town Council for the timely intervention in deciding not to allow and to completely eradicate market monopoly system in Wokha Town and ensuring that the markets remain competitive and accessible to a diverse range of service providers.
WDCCI informed through a press release that it had convened a Joint Consultative Meeting today with the ADC & Executive officer, Wokha Town Council and Wokha Town councillors in regard to the ongoing concerns regarding the allocation of Syndicate/Agency that has escalated recently in public discussion.
“The Chamber called for immediate review on the market monopoly system and highlighted on the adverse effect particularly for the business community and the common public in general” it said, while adding that after thorough deliberation, “the concern authority agreed that monopolistic control over agencies allocation would be detrimental to the business environment and, therefore, decided not to allow and completely eradicate such practices in the market.”
The WDCCI has further reiterated its stand to protect and promote the interest of the business community and to prioritize a market economy system based on the principle of free and fair competition among business entity. It has said that to foster fair competition and enhance service offerings, the Chamber is against instituting any agency/monopoly practice.
