The Wokha Village Youth Organisation has given a representation to the Deputy Commissioner of Wokha district regarding issues related to the construction of road on NH-61. It also gave the administration six days to address its demands, the failure of which will compel it to take drastic action such as road blockage, it said.
The youth organisation listed seven concerns and demands for the convenience and safety of the public.
- WVYO urged that the breast wall/retaining walls be dismantled and reconstructed using stones of appropriate size and grading for stability and durability and also to enhance its aesthetic appeal.
- The youths of Wokha Village demanded urgent installation of drain covers along NH-61
- The already constructed culverts do not meet the specified standards, and there are also some old culverts that require replacement, it stated, demanding thorough rectification of the newly constructed culverts, along with the replacement of old culverts with new ones.
- It also demanded immediate construction of breast walls with drain covers in the hillside area in Menjü and Enungro.
- WVYO urged the authorities to address the outstanding land compensation issues.
- It also asked for the relocation of electric and telecom poles that pose risk to road users and obstruct the smooth flow of traffic.
- The organisation complained that despite a joint survey by the Administration and the PWD (National Highways) and compensation paid to affected landowners, the same individuals have erected buildings on the compensated land, encroaching upon the designated road space for NH-61. Therefore, it demanded for immediate re-measurement of the compensated land to rectify any discrepancies. WVYO also insisted that action be taken against any officials who may have allowed such irregularities to occur.
