Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya, reiterated that special emphasis is being laid on the development of the North Eastern region under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Addressing a public programme at Aoyimti Village in Dimapur, the Minister stated that under the Prime Minister’s leadership, inclusive and balanced growth has been ensured across sectors, benefitting youth, farmers, women and economically weaker sections, stated a PIB press release.
She observed that the North East is witnessing renewed momentum in development initiatives as part of the vision of building a “New India,” with focused attention on connectivity, welfare delivery and self-reliance. Earlier, the Minister visited a Fair Price Shop at Padum Pukhuri Village in Dimapur, where she interacted with members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs). During the interaction, she highlighted that more than 80 crore beneficiaries across the country are receiving free food grains under the Government’s food security initiatives.
She noted that even during the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Centre ensured uninterrupted distribution of food grains so that no vulnerable household was left without support. Describing the scale of the initiative as unprecedented, she termed it one of the largest food security programmes in the world.

Sharing her experience from her home state of Gujarat, the Minister mentioned that a ‘Grain ATM’ facility was installed in her Assembly Constituency on the occasion of the Prime Minister’s birthday. The facility operates round the clock, enabling beneficiaries to access their rations conveniently at any time.
Referring to the ‘One Nation, One Ration Card’ initiative, she stated that migrant labourers are able to avail their entitled food grains anywhere in the country, thereby ensuring portability and strengthening food security nationwide. Dwelling on the AI Summit 2026 being hosted in India, the Minister said that participants from across the globe gathered at Bharat Mandapam to take part in the event.

She remarked that the summit reflects India’s growing global stature and underscores the country’s emergence as a development-oriented role model. Lauding Nagaland, the Minister appreciated the state’s natural beauty, vibrant art and rich cultural heritage. She reaffirmed that the Central Government remains firmly committed to advancing development and promoting self-reliance across the North Eastern states.
