IT equipment distribution & Aadhaar enrolment for children launched in Dimapur, Longleng and Phek

The Office of the District Economics & Statistics Officer (DESO), Dimapur, organized a programme for the distribution of IT equipment under the Registration of Births & Deaths and the launch of Aadhaar enrolment for children aged 0–5 years on April 28 at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur.

An overview of the online Registration of Births & Deaths was presented by Neisatuo Puro, Additional Director, Economics & Statistics and Joint Chief Registrar of Births & Deaths, Nagaland. He elaborated on the benefits of digital registration and its role in improving service delivery.

Puro stated that the Registrar alone cannot carry out the registration of births and deaths effectively without the support of village councils and village authorities. He emphasized that these local bodies act as the primary notifiers of such events and urged them to actively assist in verifying and certifying births and deaths within their respective areas.

Highlighting concerns over increasing instances of manipulation, he called for strict vigilance to ensure that all records remain accurate and genuine.

He further informed that online registration of births and deaths has been in place since April 2023. However, he pointed out that the state continues to lag behind others in implementation. He clarified that online registration is not limited to fresh applications alone, but also includes the digitization of old birth certificates.

In this regard, he appealed to all concerned to assist villagers in digitizing their certificates so that records are properly maintained in the system. He added that necessary support, including computers, colour printers, and internet dongles, are provided to those Registrars who are active and committed in performing their duties. He acknowledged that many Registrars remain occupied with their regular duties; however, he urged them to carry out their responsibilities sincerely.

He further urged Registrars to remain proactive, regularly log into the portal, stay informed about events in their jurisdiction, and ensure that they function effectively in fulfilling their responsibilities.

Dr Tinojongshi Chang, NCS, Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur & District Chief Registrar of Births & Deaths, emphasized that vital statistics such as birth rate, death rate, and infant mortality rate often remain inaccurate due to the non-registration of events, and stressed the need to create greater public awareness on the importance of registration.

He further stated that as the census process in Nagaland is set to begin this year, it is essential to ensure accurate data through proper registration.

Highlighting the growing importance of digital records, Chang said that registration of births has now become fully digitalized and is essential in all aspects of life. He pointed out that many people are still unaware of this system and called for wider dissemination of information so that everyone can benefit. He added that digital birth certificates are crucial for education and career opportunities, and that government initiatives are aimed at the welfare of the people.

Chang also expressed concern over cases where individuals possess multiple birth certificates and urged the Registrars to be diligent and strict while issuing such documents. He cautioned against any abnormal increase or decrease in birth and death figures, and emphasized the need to maintain accurate and reliable data at all times.

Jevika Kiba, District Education Officer, Dimapur, in her speech said that the distribution of IT equipment marked a significant step towards empowering institutions with digital tools.

She expressed that with these resources, teachers would play a crucial role in strengthening the system of birth and death registration within the framework of economic and statistical planning at the district level, extending their responsibilities beyond the classroom.

Kiba noted that teachers are not only educators but also community leaders, influencers, and trusted voices, especially at the grassroots level where people look to them for guidance in both academic and life matters. She urged teachers to educate communities on the importance of registration and to act as a bridge between government initiatives and public participation.

She added that increased community participation would significantly improve the effectiveness of the system. She also described the launch of Aadhaar enrolment for children aged 0–5 years as an important step towards ensuring inclusive identity for all children.

Kiba expressed gratitude to the organisers, departments, community leaders, church secretaries, and teachers for their support and active participation. She acknowledged the role of church secretaries in maintaining records and supporting the registration process.

Earlier, in his welcome address, R Akang Ao, Joint Director & DESO, Dimapur, who also serves as the District Registrar of Births & Deaths, highlighted the importance of strengthening digital systems for efficient registration services.

The programme culminated with the distribution of IT equipment (computers, colour printers and internet dongles) to registrars and the formal launch of Aadhaar enrolment for children in the 0–5 years age group.

Longleng:

The District Economics & Statistics Officer, Longleng held a Launching Programme for Distribution of IT Equipment Under Birth Registration based Aadhaar Enrollment Initiative and Aadhaar linked Birth Registration for Children (0-5 years) on April 28 at DESO, Office Longleng.

Deputy Commissioner & District Chief Registrar of Birth & Death Longleng, W Manpai Phom NCS, launched the Aadhaar Enrollment for Children (0-5 years) & distributed the IT Equipment to the selected Registrars Under Phase-I and highlighted about the importance of timely Registration of Births & Deaths and digitization of old certificates respectively. He said that the government will henceforth regulate the system more systematically. Online registration of birth and death certificates will transition from the earlier manual process to a fully digital and systematic format.

ESO, DES Kohima, Nzanbemo Kithan, shared the overview on Civil Registration System and to use the IT Equipment solely for the Registration of online Birth & Death certificates at block level.

Chairing the programme DESO & District Registrar of Births & Deaths, Longleng, Nyushotho Nyuthe, thanked and welcomed all the attendees. He highlighted on the Online Registration of Births & Deaths and use the IT Equipment efficiently at block level for the benefit of all the citizens.

Phek:

The Department of Economic & Statistics organized and held a programme for Distribution of IT equipments Under Birth Registration – Based Aadhaar Enrolment Initiative at DESO Office, Phek on April 27.

During the program, Deputy Commissioner Phek, Rhosietho Nguori, NCS, formally Launched the Aadhaar Registration for Children from 0-5 years in the presence of Additional Director, Department of Economic & Statistics, Neisatuo Puro.

The distribution program was chaired by Muyalu Kath, DESO Phek.
