Operation Night Guard’ conducted across Nagaland to test air raid preparedness

A simulated “Operation Night Guard/Air Raid” scenario was conducted at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Dimapur, as part of the 8th edition of the Nagaland Emergency Preparedness Exercise (NEPEx) 2026 on April 30.

The exercise reviewed a sequence of coordinated emergency response activities across multiple incident sites. At the DC Office, the mock scenario involved structural damage and fire incidents, resulting in 2 simulated deaths, 3 minor injuries, and 4 seriously injured persons. Meanwhile, at the East Dimapur Town Council (EDTC), the drill reported structural damage with 2 minor injuries, 4 seriously injured, and 1 simulated death.

An air raid siren was also activated during the exercise to replicate emergency warning systems under night guard conditions. The drill aimed to strengthen preparedness, coordination, and response mechanisms among various departments and agencies in handling emergency situations.

Mokokchung:

In a proactive move to bolster emergency readiness, a mock exercise titled “Operation Night Guard- Civil Defence Air Raid/Blackout Exercise” was successfully conducted across key locations in Mokokchung on April 30.

The exercise, which commenced at 6:30 p.m. was designed to evaluate the town’s emergency alert systems, inter-agency coordination, and public response during high-pressure scenarios.

The operation was triggered following a simulated report of an incoming air raid from RCDCC Jorhat Air Force 10 Wing and the SEOC Kohima. Upon receiving the alert, the District Emergency Operations Centre (DEOC) activated sirens through Fire & Emergency Services, while the Power Department implemented a 15-minute temporary blackout to simulate real-world air raid protocols.

During the blackout, Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, summoned the command staff- including the SP, ADC, SDO (C) Hq, EAC (DDMA Cell), DPRO, OC Wireless, and DPA to the DEOC to manage the simulated crisis.

The exercise concluded with a comprehensive de-briefing session. Sr SP Vesupra Kezo offered observations on the technical execution, followed by closing remarks from DC Ajit Kumar Verma, who emphasized the importance of such drills in ensuring the safety and resilience of the community during unforeseen emergencies.

Zunheboto:

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Civil Defence Nagaland conducted Air Raid Simulation with Rescue Exercise at DC’s office, Zunheboto under NEPEx 2026

As part of the ongoing NEPEx 2026 mock exercise, a simulated fire incident was staged at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Zunheboto to assess emergency response and coordination among agencies.

During the exercise, a total of 15 individuals were reported injured, including two who were critically injured. All casualties, reported as male participants in the simulation, were promptly evacuated by personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Civil Defence Nagaland.

The mock drill demonstrated swift action and effective coordination between SDRF and Civil Defence teams in handling emergency rescue and evacuation operations. The exercise aimed to enhance preparedness and response capabilities in the event of real-life disaster situations.

Tuensang:

District Level Civil Defence Mock Drill under the Code Name “Operation Night Guard” was successfully conducted at Tuensang Town on April 30. The objective of the Drill was to assist, co-ordination, preparedness and response capabilities from Air Raids.

The Mock exercise commenced with the Siren at 6:30 p.m. where Total Black Out was observed for 15 Minutes, followed by the activation of IRS and briefing led by the Responsible Officer, Search and Rescue Operation team involving personal from Home Guard and Civil Defence and Fire & Emergency service was dispatched to the incident site.

The incident site was located at DC Office, Tuensang, while the staging area was done at Parade Ground Tuensang, where Emergency Communication, Control Room, Field Hospital was activated.

The exercises were activated and participated from the personnel of District Administration, Home Guard and Civil Defence, Fire and Emergency Services, Medical, IPR, DEF, warden and volunteers from wards and NCC from GHSS Tuensang.
