The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department, has issued a weather advisory warning of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning across several districts of the state from June 16 to 19.
According to the advisory, while no widespread extreme weather event is anticipated during the period, isolated thunderstorms, lightning strikes and localized heavy rainfall may pose risks to residents, commuters and vulnerable communities in certain areas.
On June 16, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely to occur at isolated places in Dimapur, Kohima, Phek, Zunheboto, Kiphire and Peren districts. Other districts are expected to experience light rainfall at a few locations. The NSDMA has advised residents to remain vigilant during periods of thunderstorm activity.
For June 17, thunderstorms with lightning are expected at isolated places in Kohima, Wokha, Zunheboto, Mokokchung and Mon districts. Light to moderate rainfall is likely across several districts, with localized rainfall activity expected throughout the state.

On June 18, isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are forecast in Kohima, Wokha and Mon districts. Intermittent light to moderate rainfall is also expected to continue over many parts of Nagaland.
The advisory further stated that on June 19, thunderstorms with lightning are likely at isolated places in Dimapur, Kohima and Peren districts. In addition, heavy rainfall may occur at isolated locations in Peren district.
In view of the possibility of heavy rainfall, the NSDMA has cautioned residents living in vulnerable and low-lying areas to remain alert, as localized waterlogging, flash flooding and landslides cannot be ruled out.
The authority noted that although no widespread extreme weather event is anticipated, isolated thunderstorms, lightning and localized heavy rainfall may pose risks to commuters and residents.
It has advised the public to avoid taking shelter under trees during thunderstorms, stay away from water bodies during lightning activity, and remain updated through official weather advisories.
The NSDMA also advised citizens are advised to stay updated with official weather forecasts and advisories.
