The United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC), the apex student body representing the Sangtam community, has extended its unwavering solidarity and full support to the Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) in its ongoing demand for the timely completion of the NH-29 Two-Lane (Kohima–Jessami Road) Package-II project.
In a statement issued by its vice president, T Thinglise and assistant general secretary, Longtsase Sangtam, the USSC expressed serious concern over the prolonged delay in the execution of the crucial highway project despite repeated assurances from the concerned authorities and the EPC contractor, M/s Ratna Infra Project Private Limited. The conference stated that the continued delay has caused immense hardship to the general public while significantly hampering the developmental aspirations of the people.
The USSC emphasized that the Kohima–Jessami Road serves as a vital lifeline connecting several districts and communities across Nagaland, particularly Kiphire district. It noted that students, patients, traders, government employees and citizens depend on the highway for access to educational institutions, healthcare facilities, commercial activities, administrative services, and other essential needs.
According to the USSC, the deteriorating condition of the road has not only jeopardized public safety but has also inflicted significant economic losses on commuters and transporters.
The USSC further pointed out that with the arrival of the monsoon season, the situation has become increasingly critical. “The continued delay in project execution, coupled with the slow pace of work, reflects a disturbing lack of urgency and accountability on the part of the implementing agencies,” it stated.

Strongly endorsing the demands raised by the CSU, the USSC called upon the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and the concerned contractor to immediately intensify restoration, maintenance, and construction activities and ensure the speedy completion of the project. It asserted that public welfare must take precedence over bureaucratic delays and contractual complacency.
The Conference maintained that infrastructure development is not merely a contractual obligation but a responsibility towards the people. It warned that the failure to complete critical infrastructure projects within stipulated timeframe undermines public trust and hampers the socio-economic progress of the state.
Reaffirming its support, the USSC stated that it stands shoulder to shoulder with the Chakhesang Students’ Union in this matter and urged the concerned authorities to respond positively to the legitimate concerns of the people.
