Affirmation of Brotherhood: Southern Angami and Northern Maram youth organisations come together

Kohima: Metekhriele Mejura, SAYO president, said the gathering is held because of the desire to keep alive the relationship and friendship which have been initiated and built by the forefathers of the two regions

The Southern Angami Youth Organization (SAYO) of Nagaland and the Northern Maram Students’ & Youth Organization of Manipur today held the ‘Affirmation of Brotherhood’ programme here at Angami Youth Organisation Monolith, Kisama Village.

Metekhriele Mejura, SAYO president, in his brief address stated that the gathering is not only called upon for the boundary issue in Kezoltsa between Nagaland and Manipur states but because of the desire to keep alive the relationship and friendship which have been initiated and built by the forefathers of the two regions.

He also said the purpose of this gathering is to get to know each other better, understand each other deeper individually, personally and as a group, and to further strengthen the relationship and uphold the bond of friendship now and in all coming times between the two regions.

P Kraibo Francis, NMSYO president, noted that this day was a historic day between the youths of the two regions. He said the two regions would continue to restrengthen its relationship in the days to come.

The Southern Angami Public Organization (SAPO) Kohima and Maram Khullen Senapati, Manipur reaffirmed their age-old brotherhood accord at Zhodi ground in Jakhama village, Kohima last year.

The gesture of the forefathers of the two communities dates back to 1926 when the brotherhood meet was held at Viswema village under SAPO area.

Subsequently, the two communities mutually agreed to support each other in the issue of safety and overall wellbeing of their people. After several rounds of talks in Kohima and Maram, the two communities unanimously decided to reaffirm their brotherhood and signed an accord on 27 August 2021 in Maram in order to fortify the brotherhood between the two communities.
