A vehicle on election duty met with an accident on Sunday at Wokha district, a day ahead the elections to the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly, resulting in the death of one.
The Office of the Deputy Commissioner Wokha in a statement informed that the ‘Traveller’ was assigned for Sungro Sector, Polling Station 4 of 39 Assembly Constituency and was carrying security and polling personnel.
The unfortunate accident took place near Thillong Bridge, Doyang and the cause of the accident was likely due to mechanical failure, the statement added.

The deceased has been identified as the driver of the vehicle while twelve others reportedly suffered injuries. The injured have been admitted to District Hospital Wokha and arrangement for air evacuation has been made, the DC’s office stated.
The statement also informed that new team of polling personnel along with polling materials from the reserve polling personnel had been dispatched from Wokha Headquarter and the EVM machines would be replaced from the reserve, if necessary.
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio took to Twitter to express his sadness on the accident, loss of life and injuries.
I am saddened to learn about the unfortunate accident of a vehicle carrying polling officials and security personnel en route to Wokha district, resulting in a loss of life. I convey my deepest condolences to the bereaved family and pray for speedy recovery of those injured.
