The Captain N Kengurüse, MVC Memorial football tournament organised by Red Shield Division and Kigwema Students’ Union commenced on February at 19 Jakhama Local ground. The tournament is set to continue till February 23.
The opening ceremony of the tournament included lighting of the lamp by the family of Captain Neikezhakuo Kengurüse along with the army officials.
OIC 5/9GR, Major Suraj Rana, in his introductory speech, reflected on the history of Nagaland and expressed admiration for Captain N Kenguruse Mahavir Chakra, who demonstrated remarkable gallantry and bravery during the Kargil war in 1999. Rana informed that the Indian Army, under the Red Shield Division in Jakhama, was organizing the Captain Kenguruse MVC Football Tournament 2024 with the aim to commemorate the valor of the Naga warrior and instill a lasting legacy for future generations in the surrounding villages.
Highlighting the values imparted by football, Maj. Rana mentioned the many roles instilled by Football in teaching communication, leadership, and time management, urging the youth to recognize both individual strength and collective efforts. With 11 teams participating, the event serve as an opportunity to pay homage to the brave Naga soldier and foster stronger bonds through the displayed talent of the youth.

Neiselie Kengurüse, father of Kengurüse MVC, acknowledged the organizers for organizing the tournament and extended gratitude to everyone in attendance. While appreciating the Indian Army, Kenguruse also acknowledged the soldiers who, over the past twenty-five years, have continued to honor and uplift the name of his late son, Captain Neikezhakuo Kengurüse, through various activities. Despite the understanding that not every team will emerge victorious, Kengurüse expressed optimism in players coming together to participate. The unity and shared experiences created through this sport and tournament was emphasised. The father of Capt. Kengurüse also thanked God for bringing them together under the name of his late son, fostering and building friendships through the tournament. .

1st match: Phesama Youth Organisation defeated 21st Millenium FC with a score of 7-2.
2nd match: (Tie break 1-1)Kingsman FC Tsiesema defeated Kigwema from the penalty mark of 4-1.
