The department of Sanitation and WSSO, PHED, Kiphire Division kicked off the campaign of Swachhata Hi Seva at Anatongre Village under Kiphire Block on 21 September.
Limatemsu, District Coordinator, highlighted the objectives of this campaign which will be running from 15 September to 2 October.
He said this campaign is for undertaking Shramdaan activities that aim to generate Jan Andolan through community participation for clean village. This is in commemoration of Swachh Bharat Diwas which is to be celebrated on 2 October.

Tsarila L Sangtam, IEC Consultant, emphasised the importance and management of solid and liquid waste management during the programme.
Swachhata Hi Seva 2022 was also launched in Langzanger village and Nikiya village on the same day.
This year, a state-wide campaign is being launched on visual cleanliness of villages to clean up garbage/waste dumped around the villages. The focus of Swachhata Hi Seva 2022 is towards the elimination of Single Use Plastics (SUP).
To discourage the use of plastics, cloth bags and sanitary pads made of bio-degradable materials were also distributed to the women participants during the campaign.

The campaign also encouraged the following activities:
- Visual cleanliness in villages
- Door to door collection of non-biodegradable wastes like plastic
- Cleaning of water sources and doing tree plantation
- Construction of waste collection and segregations sheds in the village
Since 21 September, the campaign has so far covered different villages from the three blocks of Kiphire District – Longmatra, Sitimi and Kiphire.
