Expressing commitment to the upliftment of the Rengma community and the Naga people in general, the Rengma Students’ Union (RSU) today endorsed the press release issued by the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) regarding indigenous identity, culture, and good governance in the forthcoming Urban Local Body (ULB) elections in Nagaland.
“Recognizing the critical need to protect and safeguard the interests and essence of the Naga people, the Union fully supports the Federation’s assertion for absolute indigenous representation in the upcoming ULB elections, specifically advocating for ‘Nagas by blood, not by adoption.’ The RSU also supports the NSF’s stance on excluding women married to non-locals, and their offspring, from contesting in these elections,” stated the RSU in a press release issued by its President Ajo Tsela and General Secretary Wakhanlo Semy.

The RSU stressed on the belief that preserving Naga identity and agency in decision-making processes at the local level is paramount in upholding the principles of inclusivity, equality, and indigenous rights. This, it considered, is essential in the pursuit of a democratic and empowered Nagaland.
Therefore, the Union urged all stakeholders and concerned citizens to advocate for the sanctity of indigenous participation in these elections. Additionally, RSU appealed to voters to exercise their precious vote wisely, not under the influence of money, but for visionary candidates dedicated to public service, ensuring a brighter and sustainable future for Nagaland.
