A major mudslide took place on Sunday afternoon on the Kisama Bypass road at Phesama, following a heavy bout of rain, halted vehicular traffic towards the state capital Kohima and the southern Angami villages as well as neighbouring Manipur.
A representative from Phesama told Nagaland Tribune that clearance operations were in full swing. The mudslide swept and overturned a Maruti Eeco and caused damage to several light vehicles.
The official from Phesama said six vehicles, including the overturned Eeco that were affected by the mudslide were all moved to safety by volunteers from Phesama village.
He confirmed there were no human casualties and added that the road would likely be cleared for traffic by tonight.

He also mentioned that the National Highway-2 which was cut off by a massive landslide at Phesama since June first week was temporarily opened for southbound vehicles as an emergency measure.
The Kisama bypass road had been serving as an alternate route for light vehicles after the National Highway was blocked due to the landslide.
Road closed till 7 PM on Monday
Meanwhile, the district administration Kohima has issued a travel advisory that the bypass road along Phesama-Kisama-Kigwema will be closed for all forms of traffic on Monday till 7 PM to facilitate urgent restoration works.
The advisory, issued by the deputy commissioner (DC) Kohima stated that only medical emergencies and school and college-bound vehicles will be allowed to ply on NH-2 which has been partially restored. All other light motor vehicles (LMV) will be diverted towards Kigwema-Kezo Town/Chakhabama-Kohima route.
The district administration has sought cooperation from commuters to plan their journey accordingly. It informed that further update on the road restoration progress would be given.
