5 Tribes CoRRP meets Chief Secretary; Agitation temporarily put on hold awaiting Cabinet decision

The 5 Tribe Committee on Review of Reservation Policy (CoRRP) held discussions today with the Chief Secretary of Nagaland, Sentiyanger Imchen, IAS, focusing on its core demands and the State Government’s response.

During the meeting, the Chief Secretary informed the 5 Tribes CoRRP that the State Cabinet is scheduled to meet on August 6, where it is expected to take a final decision on the core issues, including the framing of Terms of Reference and the composition of the proposed Commission within the next fortnight.

Pending the outcome of the Cabinet decision, the CoRRP announced that it would keep its proposed third phase of agitation in abeyance, in consideration of the State Government’s request.

It may be mentioned that the CoRRP had attended the meeting at the invitation of the new Chief Secretary, which was held at his conference room in the Nagaland Civil Secretariat, Kohima.

After the meeting, interacting with the media, Committee Convenor, Er Tesinlo Semy said that the Government has informed about the state Cabinet sitting scheduled on August 6, after which they would be informed about the outcome.

Semy informed that they had discussion on the reservation policy, however, the Government had expressed that due to change of guard, the matter was delayed and therefore, they accepted their request.

He further said that the Committed had planned to start their third phase of agitation from August 5, but on the request of the Government and in anticipation of the Cabinet meeting on August 6, they have deferred the decision.

“In the meeting today the Government did not spill out anything, however, our demand stands the same and we stand by our core demand,” he added.

Semy further mentioned that the committee will have a meeting and will decide on further course of action.

He also highlighted that the Government had earlier assured that they will notify the commission within forth-night but due to change of Chief Secretary they could not execute it . The committee hoped the Government will go accordingly.
