The second day of the 34th General Conference of the Langpangpkong Kaketshir Mungdang (Langpangpkong Students’ Conference) on the theme “Mongjen Mesemshidi (Rekindling Legacy),” featured deliberations on economic self-reliance and the role of technology, alongside cultural and organizational sessions, at the T Sentichuba Amphitheatre, Mongsenyimti on January 9.
Advisor, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Government of Nagaland, A Pangjung Jamir graced the programme as the special guest and addressed the gathering on the importance of purposeful youth engagement and responsible leadership.
Highlighting the need to channel youthful energy in the right direction, Jamir emphasized sustainable livelihoods and urged students to focus on selective sports disciplines that offer clear professional and career prospects. He noted that sports, when pursued with dedication and direction, can provide viable opportunities for long-term careers.
Speaking on the influence of technology, Jamir observed that students today live in a fast-developing world surrounded by digital tools which provide instant access to global knowledge. He said these technologies are meant to be used constructively and cautioned that failure to utilize them wisely and responsibly could lead to wasted time and missed opportunities.
Jamir also advised students to avoid unnecessary activities, including excessive engagement in mobile games, stating that such habits do not contribute to career development. He remarked that it is not always necessary to repeatedly tell students to study hard, as they are already aware of their responsibilities, and expressed hope that they would remain committed to their studies.
Urging students to value guidance from elders and parents, Jamir said that advice is given with good intentions and should not be taken as discouragement. He further addressed degree holders who have completed their education, reminding them that while parents have fulfilled their responsibility by supporting their studies, it is now their turn to work towards their goals and establish themselves successfully in life. He concluded by stating that the outcome of one’s career depends not on the number of years spent studying alone, but on the quality and seriousness with which those years are utilized.
