Meghalaya Government will send a team of state ministers to New Delhi on 24 November to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah to officially apprise him about the firing incident in Mukroh and to seek a central agency probe, either NIA or CBI, into the matter.
This was decided at the meeting of the Meghalaya Cabinet on Tuesday, where the incident at Mukroh in West Jaintia Hills District that left six persons dead was discussed in detail.
The Home Minister of Meghalaya, Lahkmen Rymbui, who had visited the spot of the incident and Mukroh village also shared his report. Other officials also presented their reports to the cabinet.
The Delegation will also submit a report on the incident to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in New Delhi.
Meghalaya Government also resolved to suspend all government official programs till 30 November 2022 and cancel all official festivals in the state as a mark of respect and to show solidarity with the people who have lost their lives and the affected families.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Eastern Range, will be constituted to investigate into the case as the FIR is lodged, it was decided at the meeting.
The Cabinet said the SIT will start the investigation while the appeal is made for a Central Agency to take over the investigation. Upon approval from the Government of India, the investigation will be handed over to the Central team.
A Judicial Commission under the Commissions of Enquiry Act 1952 will be constituted to look into all the aspects of the incident, the state government decided.
On Wednesday, the Deputy CM, Prestone Tynsong, and other Cabinet ministers will be travelling to Mukroh village to visit the bereaved families and handover the ex gratia cheques to the families.

The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, late on Tuesday, said that the Government of Assam has assured to cooperate in whatever demands Meghalaya Government puts forward to Centre “to ensure justice is served & those guilty are punished”.
Conrad Sangma stated that the CM of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma has suspended the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Zirikinding Police Station and the Forest Range Protection Officer in-charge of the area. The Superintendent of Police of West Karbi Anglong, Imdad Ali has also been transferred, he added.
