The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has temporarily deferred its proposed agitation over the long-pending construction of the 100-bedded Girls’ Hostel at Kohima Science College (Autonomous), Jotsoma, following what it described as significant administrative progress made by the Government after the Union’s statewide protest.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, ANCSU said the successful observance of the State-wide Black Friday Protest on June 19 and the sustained democratic pressure exerted by the student community had yielded concrete administrative developments concerning the much-delayed hostel project.
According to the Union, following the first phase of its agitation, the Directorate of Higher Education, through an official communication, informed ANCSU that the Government had collectively decided to retain the available Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds earmarked for the project, process a fresh proposal before the competent authority, and expedite the necessary administrative procedures for implementation.
The Union further stated that a more significant development followed through a letter issued by the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN) on June 29, 2026, addressed to the Directorate of Higher Education and the Project Implementation Committee (PIC). The communication directed the concerned authorities to initiate the preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) within the sanctioned CSR allocation and complete all necessary formalities for commencement of the construction process.
ANCSU described these developments as a direct outcome of the collective determination and unity demonstrated by the student fraternity across Nagaland.
Expressing gratitude to its associate and affiliated colleges, the Union acknowledged their unwavering solidarity and overwhelming support during the statewide protest. It said the remarkable unity displayed by students reaffirmed their collective commitment towards safeguarding the welfare, dignity and educational interests of female students in the state.

In view of the positive administrative response, the Union announced that it has decided, in the larger interest of constructive engagement and expeditious implementation, to temporarily defer the next phase of its agitation.
However, ANCSU asserted that the Union would continue to closely monitor every stage of the project’s execution and warned that any undue delay, administrative complacency or deviation from the commitments formally communicated by the authorities would compel it to revive and intensify its democratic agitation without further notice.
Reaffirming its commitment to the student community, ANCSU stated that it would continue to ensure that the proposed 100-bedded Girls’ Hostel at Kohima Science College (Autonomous), Jotsoma, moves beyond official correspondence and is translated into a completed infrastructure project that addresses the long-standing accommodation needs of female students.
